56-Year-Old Patient’s Rhinoplasty at D’Sculpt Cebu Highlights Why Implant Choice Is Individual

The patient initially preferred silicone, but Dr. Donna Borres Eramis recommended Gore-Tex after considering her skin elasticity, tissue characteristics, and the need for implant stability.

CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES — A 56-year-old woman underwent Gore-Tex rhinoplasty at D’Sculpt Face & Body Center on October 9, 2026, after an assessment of her nasal anatomy and tissue characteristics led to a change from her initially preferred silicone implant.

The procedure was performed by cosmetic surgeon Dr. Donna Borres Eramis, who recommended Gore-Tex, medically known as expanded polytetrafluoroethylene or ePTFE, after considering factors including the patient’s age-related changes in skin elasticity and the need for appropriate implant stability.

The case highlights an important consideration in cosmetic surgery: the procedure or material a patient initially requests may not always be the approach ultimately recommended after a surgical assessment.

Why Tissue Quality Matters in Rhinoplasty

As people age, changes can occur in skin elasticity, cartilage, and other supporting tissues of the nose. These changes do not automatically prevent an older patient from undergoing rhinoplasty, but they can affect how a surgeon plans the procedure.

For this patient, reduced skin elasticity was among the factors considered when evaluating the characteristics of different implant materials.

Silicone and Gore-Tex are both used in augmentation rhinoplasty, particularly when increasing or modifying the height and contour of the nasal bridge. However, the two materials interact differently with surrounding tissues.

Silicone is a nonporous implant material that typically becomes surrounded by a fibrous tissue capsule after placement. Gore-Tex has a microporous structure that allows connective tissue to grow into the material over time.

This tissue ingrowth may contribute to implant stability by allowing greater interaction between the implant and surrounding tissue. It does not mean that Gore-Tex fuses directly with the nasal bone or cartilage.

Gore-Tex also has its own considerations. Because surrounding tissue can grow into the material, removing the implant during a future revision may be more complex.

Neither material is therefore considered universally better for every rhinoplasty patient.

From Patient Preference to an Individual Surgical Plan

Patients considering rhinoplasty increasingly arrive at consultations having already researched implant materials, techniques, and results online.

While these preferences can be part of the discussion, implant selection also requires an assessment of factors such as skin thickness and elasticity, nasal anatomy, existing structural support, the amount of augmentation required, and the patient’s overall surgical goals.

The October 9 procedure demonstrates how those factors can change the original treatment plan.

Rather than proceeding automatically with the patient’s initial preference for silicone, Dr. Donna recommended an implant material she considered more appropriate for the patient’s individual tissue characteristics and surgical needs.

The case also illustrates why age alone should not determine whether someone is suitable for cosmetic surgery. Two patients of the same age can have different skin quality, anatomy, health considerations, and aesthetic goals, requiring different surgical approaches.

Supporting Informed Cosmetic Surgery Decisions in Cebu

D’Sculpt Face & Body Center emphasizes consultation and patient education as part of surgical planning, particularly when a patient’s requested procedure or technique may need to be modified based on clinical assessment.

For patients considering rhinoplasty in Cebu, the case underscores the importance of understanding not only what they would like to change, but also why a surgeon may recommend a particular material or surgical approach.

The patient will continue to undergo postoperative monitoring as her nose heals following the October 9 procedure. Long-term implant stability and the final aesthetic result will be evaluated as healing progresses.
